Chris Obenshain
Biography
Chris Obenshain has an extensive background in criminal law as a former Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney for both the City of Radford and Montgomery County, where he earned the designation of career prosecutor by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Chris also spent 8 years as an Assistant Attorney General in Richmond handling sexually violent offender cases and criminal appeals in state and federal court.
Chris’ experience also includes 22 years in the United States Army Reserve. After originally enlisting and serving for six years as a light-wheeled vehicle mechanic, Chris earned a commission in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps. There he has served in a variety of roles including criminal defense, legal assistance, special victim counsel, and as a brigade judge advocate. He now serves in the rank of Lieutenant Colonel as the Chief of Administrative Law for the 80th Training Command in Chesterfield, Virginia.
Chris Obenshain is a proud Virginia native who grew up in Roanoke County, graduating from Cave Spring High School before attending Bridgewater College and the University of Virginia School of Law. Chris has also represented the 41st District in the Virginia House of Delegates since 2024.
Chris and his wife Jennifer live in Blacksburg and spend most of their time raising their three active boys. They are members of Northstar Church in Blacksburg. They most enjoy spending time together taking in the natural beauty of Southwest Virginia and cheering on the Virginia Tech Hokies.
