Years in Perspective

1957
Gary was born and raised in Virginia Beach, where he attended Bayside High School before going on to earn a degree in Accounting from Georgetown University.

1977
He began his career in public service working under Karl Rove on John Dalton's campaign in Virginia. His hard work led to an invitation to stay in Richmond and continue working with Virginia political leaders.

1978
He worked full-time on Dick Obenshain's Senate campaign. After Obenshain tragically died in a plane crash following his Republican nomination win, John Warner took over the campaign and won the seat. Byler became Senator Warner's first legislative aide on the Senate floor.

Early 1980s
He returned to Virginia to attend the University of Virginia School of Law, then joined the White House staff under President Ronald Reagan.

Mid-1980s
Gary returned to Virginia Beach and began building his law practice, with a focus on honest advice, clear communication, and real results for clients.

Today
Today, Gary’s career is built on protecting victims of car crashes from being cheated by insurance companies. Every personal injury client gets his personal cell phone number, and he fights for each client like they’re family.
Standing Up for the Little Guy
When Gary saw a News 3 investigation exposing what federal prosecutors called "the parking lot scam," he didn't wait to be called. The scheme targeted Navy Federal Credit Union members across Hampton Roads, with scammers using victims' phones to take out unauthorized loans in their names and leaving them responsible for the debt. Gary took on the cases, filed lawsuits and demand letters on behalf of dozens of victims, and secured the first settlement of its kind.
His argument was simple: if you didn't apply for the loan, didn't receive the money, and reported it promptly, the debt isn't yours. "You see a bully picking on somebody smaller and you have the ability to do something about it," he said. "100 times out of 100 you stop at that playground." That's the kind of lawyer Gary is.
